"A Brand New Life" takes audiences to 1975 South Korea, following the heart-wrenching emotional journey of nine-year-old Jin Hee. In the crisp early autumn, she unknowingly embarks on a life-altering trip with her father. Near Seoul, her beloved father tragically abandons her at an orphanage for girls, managed by Catholic nuns, with the hope of her eventual adoption. Jin Hee's world shatters; she cannot reconcile her deep love for him with this devastating betrayal. She fiercely resists her new reality, desperately trying to summon her father back and attempting to run away from the orphanage. Despite her valiant efforts, she is forced to confront and ultimately accept her profound abandonment. The film sensitively portrays her struggle to find resilience, as she is left to navigate a world where her only solace is the uncertain hope and agonizing wait for a possible adoption, marking the beginning of a truly "brand new" yet challenging life.
