A Dream like the True Love chronicles a poignant romance born amidst profound adversity. Wen Su, an investigator, accidentally rescues Chen Bao Yin, a destitute rural girl sacrificed to a river god due to her family's poverty. Driven by filial love, Bao Yin bravely leaves home to find a cure for her mother, but fate intervenes, leading to her sale into servitude to the Wen family. Concurrently, Wen Su's own family plunges into sudden poverty despite his recent academic triumph. As life twists, Bao Yin becomes a boat girl on the Bian River, selling food and wine to survive. During her struggles, she uncovers Wen Su's own heartbreaking sacrifice: he has endured humiliation as the eldest princess's male favorite, a desperate measure to save his family. Amidst these shared trials and sacrifices, two isolated hearts gradually draw closer, discovering an unexpected and profound connection that blossoms into a love as enduring as a dream.
