A Romance of the Little Forest centers on Yu Meiren, a fashion blogger who uses makeup to maintain her image. Her initial goal to retaliate against a past rejection surprisingly evolves into a sweet love story. Before, as a country girl, she harbored a crush on Zhang Yu, a botany professor singularly devoted to his sweet wormwood research. His unintentional indifference had once hurt her feelings deeply. Years later, after achieving a Ph.D. in Ornithology but choosing a blogger's life over scientific pressures, Yu Meiren crosses paths with Zhang Yu again. Their reunion starts on the wrong foot when he seeks lodging at her bed and breakfast during a work trip to a village. Despite initial friction, she proves invaluable to his research, and he, in turn, experiences genuine feelings of love and warmth, emotions he never found tending to his beloved plants.
