The film "Kanakana" centers on Masa, a legendary former delinquent once renowned for winning fights against a hundred opponents. Despite his fearsome facial scar, which leads the public to mistake him for a yakuza, Masa is a gentle and kindhearted young man. He now runs Paisen, a small izakaya nestled by the sea, demonstrating a quiet tenderness towards wild animals and plants. His peaceful existence takes an unforeseen turn when he encounters Kanakana, a mysterious girl desperately fleeing a suspicious man. Kanakana possesses an extraordinary power: she can read people's hearts. This unique ability was cruelly exploited by her manipulative uncle, Sawada, who forced her to use it in a gambling house. As Masa reluctantly becomes her protector, he must confront both external dangers and the lingering shadows of his own past to safeguard Kanakana and her gift.
