"Sayonara Maestro: Chichi to Watashi no Appassionato" tells the compelling story of a celebrated maestro's journey to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Natsume Shunpei, a world-renowned conductor since his twenties, dedicated his life passionately to music, inspiring musicians across the globe. Yet, his musical genius overshadowed every other aspect of his life; he was utterly inept at simple daily tasks, including housework. This singular focus on his craft eventually led to a tragic incident five years prior, causing his daughter and family to leave him, and forcing him to abandon his illustrious music career.
Now, after decades, Shunpei returns to Japan to conduct a provincial orchestra. There, he unexpectedly encounters his daughter, Hibiki, whom he hasn't seen in five years. They begin to live together, but Hibiki, in stark contrast to her father, despises music and lives a life deliberately devoid of it. Blinded by his lifelong devotion to music, Shunpei struggles to comprehend his daughter's true feelings. This heartfelt family drama follows Shunpei as he endeavors to fulfill his role as a father, slowly helping Hibiki's life, which had stagnated years ago, to move forward once more.
